Description
The chest tomb, dating from the 18th century, is located about 3 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St. Michael in Stokenham. It is made of dressed slate and features a much weathered slate lid. The north and south sides have slate panels. The north panel bears an inscription dedicated to Mary, the daughter of Thomas and Joanna Edmonds of East Carnborough in this parish, who died in 1762 at the age of 9 months. The south panel commemorates Mary Gillard, the wife of Nathaniel Gillard of Cormore in this parish, who passed away in 1770.
