Description
10 South Street is possibly a late 14th century defensive tower that was part of the town wall. It was rebuilt after being partially demolished in the late 19th century. In 1462, it was referred to as "the little house on the walls," located near Shambles Gate. The building has three and a half storeys and features one window on the main north front. It has a hipped Welsh slate roof and is constructed from Devonian limestone with random rubble on the south facade, while the other faces are partly covered in pebbledash rendering and slate-hung on the east side. The windows are recessed sash types, and there is a recessed doorway with a plain surround and a boarded door.
