Description
Wayside Cottage, which includes an adjoining barn to the north, dates from the mid to late 17th century. The cottage is built of stone rubble, with some parts rendered, and features a thatched roof with gabled ends. It is a single storey with an attic. There are only two windows facing the road; one is a 19th-century casement with glazing bars, while the other is a 20th-century plate glass window in a small opening to the barn. A rendered chimney stack is located at the gable end, and there is a semi-newel staircase at the rear. The rear wing has a short half-hipped thatched roof. Inside, there is an ovolo-moulded ceiling beam with carved stops. The barn, which is attached to the north of the cottage, shares the same thatched roof and is likely contemporary with the cottage.
