Description
A row of four cottages dating to the 17th century. The walls are likely rendered rubble, possibly incorporating some cob, and have a gable ended thatched roof. There are three brick stacks: two are axial, and one is positioned at the right-hand end. Originally, each cottage was based on a single-room plan, although some subdivisions were added in the 20th century, along with 19th and 20th century additions to the rear.
The facades are asymmetrical and low, featuring a varying number of windows (1:1:1:1). Verbena, the cottage on the left, has 19th-century 2-light casement windows on each floor and a plank door to the right, sheltered by a tile hood. Brook Cottage, next to it, features two 19th-century casements and an early 20th-century plank door with a small hood. Rosecote has a circa late 18th-century horizontal sliding sash window on the ground floor to the left, accompanied by 20th-century 2-light casements above. A lean-to 20th-century porch with a glazed door is centrally located. No. 2 Rosecote at the end has two 20th-century 2-light casements and a 20th-century part-glazed door with a hood to the left. A taller, slate-roofed addition was added in the 19th century to the right-hand end. The interior was inaccessible during the survey, but the cottages may contain original features such as ceiling beams, fireplaces, and roof timbers.
