Description
Rockhill House is a detached house located at a street junction in Aveton Gifford, dating from the early 19th century. The building features rendered rubble on the front, with the back wall exposed, and has a double Roman tile roof. It is a compact and symmetrical structure with a central stair hall and a hipped block that is set back from the street. The house has two storeys and an attic, with three windows that include 16-pane sash windows, except for a 12-pane window above the central six-panel door, which is set in panelled reveals and covered by a flat-roofed canopy supported by two slender iron columns with glazed sides.
The left return of the house is plain but includes a hipped dormer with glazed cheeks and two large stone eaves stacks, one of which is cropped. The left return is similar, with stacks raised in brick. The back of the house has widely spaced 16-pane sash windows and a central glazed door at landing level that provides access to the garden via a small bridge. The interior has not been inspected. Overall, Rockhill House is a building of greater importance situated in an otherwise ordinary row of houses.
