Description
Lower Coltscombe is a farmhouse built around 1830-1840, with a farm building dated 1835. It features rendered stone rubble with masonry lining at the front and slate hung on the left side. The slate roof has gabled ends and deep bracketed eaves at the front, along with rendered gable end stacks topped with turned clay pots.
The house has a double depth plan, consisting of two main front rooms with a doorway located to the right of center, likely leading to service rooms at the back. The exterior is two storeys high, with an attic and basement. The south front is almost symmetrical with three windows, which are arranged towards the right. The original windows are 16-pane sashes. The doorway to the right of center is framed by a reeded pilaster doorcase, featuring fretted panel reveals and a 19th-century flush panelled and glazed door. There is also a 19th-century open porch or a flight of slate steps with reeded columns, later openwork spandrels, and a wooden lattice balustrade at the front.
On the left side, the west elevation is slate hung and has 20th-century casements, while the right side, east elevation, also features some 20th-century casements. At the rear, there is a single-storey outshut on the left and a 20th-century wooden porch in the angle. The interior was not inspected.
