Sloutts Farmhouse Including Front Garden Area Walls, Railings and Gatepier

Sloutts Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of slate rubble with red brick window arches, a red brick gable, and a partly slate-hung slate roof with gabled ends. Brick chimney shafts are located at the gable end and along the main axis. The plan is double depth and rectangular, with two main rooms at the front, a central entrance hall, and smaller service rooms at the rear. The right-hand rear room was the kitchen, while the left-hand rear room appears to have been unheated and was likely a dairy. A lower, two-storey wing with a cellar is set back on the right-hand end and probably dates to the later 19th century as an extension; it has a gable end stack, and a single-room plan.

The front of the main house is symmetrical, with three windows. The main part of the house has sash windows with flat brick arches, the centre and right-hand first floor windows retaining their original 16-pane sashes (although the glazing bars have been removed from the top right-hand sash), while the other sashes have been replaced with later 19th century 4-pane sashes. An early 19th century doorway features an early 19th century six-panel door, panelled reveals, pilasters, and a wooden portico with slender Tuscan columns and an entablature canopy with a panelled soffit. The two-storey and cellar wing set back on the right has a 19th century 16-pane sash on the first floor, a two-light casement to the left, and a later 19th or 20th century 4-pane sash on the ground floor above a 19th century plank cellar door; the right-hand return has a louvred cellar window in what was an earlier entrance.

The front garden area is enclosed by an early 19th century low slate rubble wall with a slate capping and end piers. Railings survive to the right of the gate, which is towards the right end of the wall. The gateway has square dressed slate piers with moulded slate caps and a 20th century gate. Internal features noted include panelled window shutters, moulded architraves to arched alcoves in the front rooms, and an original staircase.
