Description

SLAPTON 5X8244 Granary 30 metres south 12/79 south west of south grounds farmhouse

GV II

Granary and dovecote over cart-shed. Circa early C19 or possibly C18. Local slate rubble with dressed slate stringflowers. Hipped slate roof with black ridge tiles. Plan: Square on plan. A cart-shed on the ground floor with a doorway on the east side; on the first floor a granary with external pigeon holes above the eaves. Exterior: 2 storeys. There is a dressed slate stringcourse just above first floor level and a continuous slate ledge under the pigeon holes under the eaves. On the north side there is a stone flight of steps up to the first floor granary doorway on the left and above 2 tiers of pigeon holes. On the east side a wide cart doorway with C20 plank doors. On the west side ground and first floor windows with C20 casements. Interior: Not inspected but the grain bins on the first floor are said to have been removed.
