Description

This is a house dating from around the mid-19th century. It is constructed of local slate rubble with red brick window arches. The slate hipped roof has crested ridge tiles, and a rendered stack on the right-hand side features yellow clay louvred pots. The plan is double-depth and rectangular, with two principal front rooms on either side of a central entrance, and likely smaller service rooms to the rear. The south front is almost symmetrical, with three windows slightly disposed to the right. It has circa late 19th-century 2-light casement windows with glazing bars, set in openings with cambered red brick arches and slate sills. The central doorway has an original circa-19th-century 6-panel door, with the bottom panels flush, and a canopy of one large piece of slate supported on shaped wooden brackets. Casements with glazing bars are also present on the right-hand side, while the left side facing the garden has a circa-19th-century casement with glazing bars on the ground floor and a 20th-century casement above. The rear wall abuts an adjoining house. The property includes a probable 19th-century front garden area wall constructed of local limestone and slate rubble, with cement-rendered cappings. A pair of small 20th-century slate-rubble gate piers are positioned at the centre of the wall, which is curved and encloses a small front garden in the angle of the house and adjacent outbuildings. The interior was not inspected but likely retains simple 19th-century joinery. The building is included for group value.
