Description
The Broadstone Conduit, located at the west end of No. 47 Clarence Street, is a water conduit dated 1519, likely refurbished in the 19th century, with its plaque recut in the late 20th century. It is constructed from snecked local limestone with sandstone detailing, and has been mended with concrete. At ground level, there is a round-headed alcove that once housed a tap and drain, both of which are now blocked, set within an oblong block of masonry. Above the alcove, a recut sandstone plaque displays the town seal and the date 1519. A sandstone cornice, also mended with concrete, sits above, while the top of the structure is obscured by ivy, concealing the parapet.
