Description

This is a 16th or 17th century merchant's house, of the "deux corps de batiments" type, that was remodelled in the earlier 19th century. It has three storeys and two windows. The roof is hipped and covered with Welsh slate. The house has masonry party walls, with the first and second floors timber-framed and slate-hung, featuring a dentil eaves cornice. The windows are architraved sashes with glazing bars. A ground floor loggia, supported by Doric columns with an entablature and dentil cornice, extends over the pavement. A later 19th-century shopfront is present, along with a doorway leading to a passage entrance, which features a rectangular fanlight and a raised and fielded panel door. A separate kitchen block contains a later 18th-century open fireplace, complete with an architraved surround, mantle, and hob grate. The property retains a small, now roofed-in, courtyard.
