Description

Hay Farmhouse is a farmhouse, dated 1817 and inscribed "John Widescombe" on a slate plaque on the gable end. It is constructed of slate-hung stone rubble with an asbestos slate roof featuring gabled ends. The wide eaves of the front are corniced with dentils. The house has a double-depth plan, two storeys and an attic, and originally comprised three bays. It has sash windows with glazing bars; the centre first-floor window is narrower and serves the landing. The ground floor now has 20th-century French windows, and a central doorway with a moulded doorcase flanked by pilasters. A previous columned porch has been removed and replaced with a large 20th-century glazed conservatory across the front of the ground floor. There are three flat-roofed dormers with sash windows in the attic. Rendered chimney stacks are at the gable ends. A two-storey, single-window slate-hung wing with a hipped roof is attached to the left-hand (south-west) end.
