Description
The Battery, built in 1905, served as a magazine and battery for 6 inch guns. It features concrete emplacements with rails for gun mountings and steps leading to sunk magazine entrances. The structure includes an iron door and fittings. The interior is noted for being complete and retains some original machinery, including ammunition hoists. Along with the Renney Battery, it showcases the advancements in design and function aimed at countering the battleships and cruisers from the period just before the introduction of the Dreadnought. The lighter and quicker-firing 6 inch guns were specifically designed to target smaller and faster warships that could evade the larger 9.2 inch batteries of the Renney Battery.
