Description
The Submarine Mine Observation Station, built in 1896, features an observation post constructed around 1910, located immediately to the north. These structures are historically linked to a Defence Electric Light emplacement and Fort Bovisand.
Both buildings are made of shuttered concrete. The observation station is built around an earlier limestone building and includes iron fittings and armour plating. It is a semi-sunken concrete structure with two observation cells, each accessed by steps at the rear. Inside, each cell contains a slab with a recess or instrument socket. The roofs are protected by armour plating, and the viewing slits are fitted with sliding iron shutters.
The observation post is a small rectangular concrete structure with a door at the rear and a wide opening at the front. The concrete roof at the front is partially collapsed.
