Description
The Defence Electric Light emplacement, built around 1900, is located north of Bovisand Harbour and is historically linked to the Bovisand submarine mine observation station and Fort Bovisand.
This structure is made of concrete and brick, featuring concrete steps. It is square in shape and situated on a cliff-face promontory. The seaward side has a rectangular opening, while the south wall includes a wide door opening. Adjacent to the door is a concrete platform with a railing, and thirteen steps lead up the cliffside, although both the platform and steps are partially collapsed.
Inside, the north wall contains a lower recess for a stove, complete with a flue duct in the outer concrete layer. The walls have an inner skin of red brick, and the concrete roof is reinforced with steel beams. A round hole in the roof allows for ducting heat from a searchlight, and an iron ring is fixed to the roof near the door.
