Description

The Castle Hotel is an early 19th-century building that has been refronted and is now divided into three separate occupations. It appears to have been created in the 19th century by combining five older buildings, including No 16 Castle Street. The structure has three storeys and features a fenestration pattern of 1:2:2:1:2, with No 16 Castle Street having splayed bay oriel windows topped with a cornice that arches over the second-floor window. The roof is hipped and covered with Welsh slate, and there are rendered stacks. The front is made of stuccoed masonry with pilaster strips at the corners and a modillion eaves cornice. The first and second floors have architraved sash windows with glazing bars, while Nos 59A and 59B have modern shopfronts but still retain the pilasters and fascia from earlier 19th-century shops.
