Description
Blackler is a farmhouse dating from around the 17th century, with an early 19th-century wing and various alterations. It is constructed of stone rubble and has a scantle slate roof with gabled ends. The building is two storeys high and features a three-window range, with the 19th-century wing to the left (southwest) forming an L-shaped plan, which also has a three-window range. The right side of the main range is set back slightly.
The farmhouse has large 19th-century two-light casements with glazing bars, and the ground floor windows are topped with flat stone arches. There is a central doorway that has a plank panel door within a moulded doorcase, and a 20th-century glazed porch with a sundial above it, dated 1662, which bears the Woolston arms. A large rendered chimney stack is located at the right-hand (east) gable end, with another chimney on the rear wall. At the back, there is an outshut and a short gabled wing, which features pigeon holes in the gable of the southwest wing.
Inside, the farmhouse includes stopped and chamfered ceiling beams and a fireplace at the east end that has an ovolo moulded wooden bressummer.
