Description

Spriddlescombe Manor Farmhouse with attached granary is a farmhouse that likely dates from the 17th century but has been significantly modified in the 18th and 19th centuries. It features rendered rubble, with some exposed at the back, and has a low-pitched slate roof, although the granary end has an asbestos-cement slate roof. The building is a long, narrow range that may have originally included a cross-passage, but the passage now leads to a stair. There is a continuous outshut at the back, with parts of the building being two storeys and parts one storey. At the higher end, to the left, there is a granary above a partially sunk cellar or store.

The farmhouse has two storeys and features one window on the first floor and four on the ground floor. The granary has a small blocked two-light casement window above a two-light window, followed by 12-pane sash windows in flush boxes. In the third bay, there is a six-panel fielded door set deep in panelled reveals, topped with a 20th-century flat hood supported by slender iron columns. The building has a ridge stack on the left at the junction with the granary, an off-ridge stack at the hipped end on the right, and a central stack for the outshuts at the eaves. The right return has two windows that are painted in, although the frames remain. The back of the building features an arched light leading to the stair.

Inside, the farmhouse has panelled shutters, 19th-century doors, Victorian fireplaces, and a Victorian staircase. The granary, which contains storage bins, is accessed by seven stone steps leading to a plank door in the half-hipped end, above a large open cellar that possibly has 17th-century beams.
