Description

The building is a bank barn and shippon located immediately southeast of Haredon Farmhouse, dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of slate rubble and features a scantle slate roof with gabled ends. The barn is positioned on a steep site, oriented at right angles to the slope of the land. The shippon is located under the lower end and has three narrow doorways. Central barn doors are accessed by a stone ramp, with a loading door in the higher gable end facing the road. There are ventilation slits on both the front and back walls. The roof trusses have morticed apices and side pegged lap-jointed collars. This barn is a very good and unaltered example of its type, notable for its unusual orientation. It also holds significance due to its group value with the medieval Haredon Farmhouse.
