Description
No 22 is a house located in a row in the village, dating from the late 17th century, with alterations from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. It is constructed from roughcast stone rubble with cob above and features an asbestos slate roof with gabled and hipped ends. The house has a 3-room and through passage plan, with an external stack at the lower left end. There is a gabled rear lateral hall stack with set-offs and a gable-ended wing extension that includes external stairs leading to a loft door. A rear lean-to outshut and a 20th-century wing are located at the back of the lower end. The building is two storeys high and has a four-window range, with 19th-century two-light casements that have horizontal glazing bars. The through passage doorway is located to the left of centre and features a fielded panel door. The heavy doorframe at the rear of the through passage has bead moulding.
Inside, the hall includes three moulded ceiling beams with ogee hollows and fillets, along with run-out bar steps. The similar section joists have carved leaf steps. The ceiling beam in the lower room is moulded on one side and chamfered on the other, with a morticed soffit far screen. The former passage has chamfered joists with bar stops, and some of the ceiling joists are probably reused and moulded. Many 18th-century fielded panel internal doors are present. The roof structure features principals that are halved and side-pegged for the collars, with trenched through purlins.
