Description
This is a range of two farm buildings, likely a shippon and a threshing barn, situated west of Grilstone. The buildings probably underwent a 19th-century remodelling and extension of 17th-century structures. They are primarily constructed of stone rubble, with some cob on the farmyard side, and feature slate roofs. The layout encloses the west side of the Grilstone farmyard. The shippon, located to the south, has been adapted for stabling, while the threshing barn, which has a higher roofline, is located to the north and is used for storage.
On the farmyard side, the shippon has stone rubble on the left and cob on stone rubble to the right. It includes a loft with a doorway in the cob section, a row of pigeon holes, two ground floor doorways, and four windows. The west side, facing the road, features four ground floor windows and two loft doors. The barn consists of a mix of cob and stone on the east side, with double doors in a large doorway, and the road elevation has two sets of double doors. This range forms part of an irregular and attractive group of farm buildings located north-west of Grilstone.
