Description
No. 104 High Street is a shop dating from the mid-19th century. It is built of painted brick with painted stone dressings, and the roof is not visible from the street. The building has three storeys and features a two-window range. The ground storey has a 20th-century shop front, but a piece of the original ashlar stonework remains at the left-hand end.
The second-storey windows are round-headed with moulded surrounds that include panelled imposts and keystones, topped with dentilled cornices. The wood casements have transom-lights. There are attached shafts with foliated capitals at either end of the front.
On the third storey, there is a continuous range of seven round-headed openings. The openings at each end and in the centre are blind and contain semicircular niches, while the other four have sash windows. The arches spring from chamfered, square-section columns with panelled imposts and are continued with carved cills. The top entablature features a bracketed and panelled frieze, along with a dentilled and modillioned cornice that is finished with a blocking course. The interior has not been inspected.
