Description
A large house, later used as a shop, was built in the mid-19th century. It has solid rendered walls and a roof that is not visible from the street. The building is three stories high and has a two-window front on the High Street, with an additional window on the rounded corner. A seven-window return front extends to Paternoster Row, and a further window is visible on the rear wall facing east. The ground floor of the High Street frontage has a shop front dating from the late 20th century. The second-floor windows above are each of three lights, housed within a single moulded architrave topped by an entablature. The central window of this architrave projects forward as a segmental pediment resting on consoles. The corner window is single-light and has a triangular pediment on consoles. A raised band at cornice level links all three windows on the High Street frontage. The third-floor windows have moulded architraves, with the High Street facing windows being of two lights. All the windows are plain sashes. A prominent bracketed eaves cornice runs across the frontage and continues onto the return front and the single-window section of the rear wall. Most of the openings on the return front are blind, but four second-floor windows have six-pane sashes, and five third-floor windows have six or eight-pane sashes. Both upper-storey windows on the rear wall also have six-pane sashes. The interior was not inspected. The building is a good example of its group value, demonstrating architectural style of the period.
