Description

No. 24 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and offices, dating from the early to mid 19th century. The building has rendered, solid walls, likely made of brick, and features a slated roof that is hipped at the front. A wide, old red brick chimney with seven pots sits at the center of the ridge.

The structure has three storeys, with a one-window range facing High Street and a four-window return to Paternoster Row, where the corner is rounded. The ground storey includes a 20th-century shop front that extends onto part of the return front, which has only blocked openings at this level, except for a 20th-century door at the east end. The upper storeys feature triple barred sashes on the front, with six panes in the center and two on each side. The return front has eight-paned sashes. All sashes are 20th-century replacements, except for the two eastern windows on each storey of the return front. Both fronts have a deep, projecting eaves cornice. The rear wall, which faces the churchyard, has a blocked window in each upper storey and a sash window with one upright glazing bar in the gable.

The building holds historical significance due to its prominent location on the corner of Paternoster Row, adjacent to St Peter's Church.
