Description
This is a house, originally one dwelling but later divided into two, likely dating from around the 1830s. It is constructed using mass wall techniques with a slate roof, gabled at the right end and hipped at the left. Brick chimney shafts are present. The main part of the house, divided into two, fronts onto Newport Road. A rear right wing, now a separate house, is not included in the listing.
The front facade is asymmetrical, with a three-bay symmetrical design on the right-hand side, which forms the principal front. A deep eaves cornice is present, featuring paired brackets, and a pedimented gable sits centrally above it. A central internal porch is positioned on the principal front, with an outer doorway featuring engaged Doric columns and a triglyph frieze. The front door is a 20th-century panelled timber door. The ground floor windows are 16-pane sashes, with a 12-pane sash in the centre of the first floor. The right return has a shallow, two-storey bay with rounded corners.
To the left of the main part, No.2 retains an asymmetrical appearance with regular window placement. A 19th-century four-panel front door, with a plain overlight, is positioned towards the right of the front elevation. A 20th-century French window and overlight are located to the left of the door. The central section of the elevation is blank, with one ground floor 16-pane sash window to the right of the front door, and two first floor 16-pane sashes. A single 12-pane sash window is in the first floor right position.
The interior has not been inspected but may contain features of architectural interest.
