Description

Abbey Cottage is a cottage likely dating from the late 17th century, with later alterations. It is located on Bull Hill, Pilton, near Abbey House. The cottage is constructed from stone rubble and brick; the front elevation is rendered, while the right end wall is of handmade brick. It has a slate roof with gabled ends, and axial and right-end stacks with brick shafts.

The cottage has a single-depth plan with a single-storey outshut at the right end. The concave front wall suggests the left end may have been built at a different date than the rest of the building. It is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical 4-window facade. A recessed 20th-century front door is positioned to the left of centre. There are three ground-floor and four first-floor windows, each with a 6 over 1 pane sash window. A door on the front, leading into the right-hand outshut, has six flush panels. The interior has not been inspected, but may retain features of interest. Local historical records suggest the site may have been purchased by David Green, a fuller, in 1611.
