Chulmleigh Primary School

Chulmleigh Primary School is a school built in 1859. It features unrendered stone rubble with ashlar dressings and has a tiled roof with coped gable ends and shaped stone kneelers. The building has an asymmetrical layout with an L-shaped front range that includes a smaller gabled entrance porch topped by a tall bell turret. This turret is located on the inner face of the gabled wing that projects forward on the left side. There is an additional gabled wing at the center rear of the main range, which has a second gabled entrance porch on the right side, running parallel to and adjoining the rear of the main range. The exterior is single storey and includes three two-light stone mullion straight-headed windows on the front range. Above the pointed arched doorway, there is a shield and a gable that is surmounted by the tall gabled bell turret, which features offsets and a shoulder-headed bell-opening. Each gable end of the left wing has a large transomed window with three trefoil-headed lights, and the rear wing has a similar window. The right gable end of the main range features a four-light window with a large trefoil window above it. There is also a similar pointed arched doorway at the rear entrance porch.
