Description

Stone Farmhouse is a mid-18th century farmhouse constructed of cob on a rubble plinth, rendered and colourwashed, with a hipped straw thatched roof and rendered end stacks. The building has a two-room main range, with a kitchen on the left, a central hall featuring a straight-flight staircase, and a parlour on the right, both heated by gable-end fireplaces. At the rear of the kitchen is a large two-storeyed dairy wing, forming an L-plan.

The exterior displays a symmetrical arrangement of three windows on the principal elevation, featuring 20th-century uPVC casements with diamond-paned lights and applied lead cames. There is a central door opening with a 20th-century door and a 20th-century lean-to porch. The rear wing also has uPVC casements.

Inside, the kitchen includes a large fireplace with a wooden bressumer and a roughly hewn ceiling beam. The lobby is featureless with a 20th-century staircase, likely in the position of the original stair. The parlour has a small fireplace set in an 18th-century rubble surround. The dairy, accessed from the kitchen, is featureless.

The roof structure consists of roughly-hewn halved timbers, simple king-post trusses with diagonal bracing, and purlins resting on top of the principals, featuring halved and lapped joints secured with wooden pegs.
