Description

Northfield Cottage is a small house dating from 1843 to 1851, built by George Tucker, a yeoman farmer, on land previously known as 'Reid's tenement'. The house is constructed of rendered stone with a slate and asbestos tile roof and has end stacks with brick shafts featuring corbelled cornices. It has a double-depth plan, with two rooms wide.

The two-storey, symmetrical façade has a three-window range. A rebuilt gabled porch with lattice sides leads to a panelled 19th-century front door. There are two ground-floor and three first-floor windows, each with 12 panes and hornless sashes. The right return side has one first-floor window and one attic window; the first-floor window uses small-pane casements, and the attic window features a crank-head arch. More recent 20th-century windows are located at the rear of the property, and a 20th-century conservatory has been added to the west side.

The interior of the house has not been inspected. According to local historical records, the house was built on land known as Reid's tenement.
