Description
The building is a former chapel, now used as a farm outbuilding, located approximately 5 metres east of Cadbury Barton. It is likely from the 16th century and is constructed of unrendered stone rubble. The chapel has a slate roof with gable ends and features sections of moulded timber cornice on each side. It has a small rectangular plan, with a doorway on the north side and a partially blocked window opening on the south side. Both the east and west ends are blind. The roof features a largely intact waggon roof, which was formerly ceiled, although only some laths remain. There are three trusses: one at each end and one in the center. These trusses have straight principals resting on a timber wall plate, with staggered purlins and lapped cambered collars supported by short elbowed struts that are also lapped to the sides of the principals. This barrel construction supports the longitudinal ribs, most of which are still intact. This building is a rare surviving example of a chapel that was part of an isolated barton farmhouse.
