Description

The Old Manse is an early 19th-century former manse, now a private dwelling, located adjoining the east side of Brayford Baptist Chapel. It is constructed of rendered stone rubble with a slate roof featuring gable ends. There are stone rubble stacks to the rear left side and a rendered stack to the right gable end. The house follows a symmetrical 2-room central staircase plan, with a 2-storey wash-house and pantry range of lower ridge level adjoining at the right end. The main range presents a 3-window front, with 12-paned sash windows. A central 6-panelled door provides access. A corrugated iron verandah roof is supported by timber posts. The service range, set back slightly, has a 6-paned single light window above a 19th-century 3-light window (2 panes per light), a plank door to the left, and a rectangular window opening with a drip to the right. The interior retains unspoilt 19th-century fittings and joinery.
