Description

Chantry Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, which was remodeled in the early 20th century. It is constructed of rendered stone rubble and cob, topped with a slate roof that features gable ends. The building has a rubble stack at the left gable end and a lateral hall stack at the rear, which is enclosed in a right-angled projection. This projection has a truncated former gable end stack that heats the first floor only, along with a lateral stone rubble stack at the rear that heats the lower end. The layout consists of three rooms and a through-passage plan, with a short two-storey wing at the rear, creating an overall T-shaped plan. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a four-window range. The early 20th-century windows are four-paned horned sashes. There is a slated gabled porch at the entrance.

Inside, the hall features an ovolo-moulded lintel with a bar-and-hollow step stopped design above the fireplace, which has dressed stone jambs. There are two ovolo-moulded door surrounds with elaborate bar and fluted stops on either side of the staircase located at the rear of the hall. A creamery is present on the interior front wall of the hall. The ceiling beam in the hall is boxed in at the center, and there is a chamfered and stopped bressumer. Much of the interior and the entire roof were destroyed by fire in 1919.
