Description
No. 96 Boutport Street is a shop built in the mid-19th century, likely part of the design of Butchers' Row by architect R.D. Gould. The building is stuccoed with a roof concealed behind a parapet, situated prominently at the corner of Butchers' Row and Boutport Street. It has two storeys, with the ground floor featuring an arcade that is infilled with glazing, including radial glazing bars in the heads. There are three bays facing Butchers' Row and two bays on Boutport Street. The round-headed moulded arches spring from plain piers with moulded imposts. Above the arcade, there is a deep cornice and platband. The first floor contains 12-pane sash windows set in eared, shouldered architraves with keyblocks, and there is a band below the deep projecting, bracketed eaves cornice leading to the parapet. A doorway is located in the central bay on the Butchers' Row side. The interior has not been inspected but may contain features of interest. The building showcases a robust classical design and occupies an important corner site.
