Description

The churchyard cross, located approximately 20 metres south of the west tower of Heanton Punchardon Parish Church, is a Grade II listed structure. This cross, possibly of Celtic origin, was reset in 1903 and is made of granite. It stands about 1½ metres tall on a square granite base. The head of the cross is weathered and has an almost oval shape, with carvings in low relief on one face only. It was brought from Cornwall to mark the grave of Sir William R Williams, Baronet of Upcott, who died on 16th May 1903. This cross forms a pair with another churchyard cross nearby.
