Description
This is a farmhouse, dating back to the 17th century, with significant alterations made in the early 19th century. It has hipped thatched and slate roofs, and three brick stacks are positioned along the ridge, acting as axial stacks. The original plan was a three-room-and-through-passage layout, but this was remodelled in the early 19th century. The lower room on the right-hand side was retained, while the through-passage was combined into one room, then divided into two smaller rooms—a kitchen and a cider room. At the higher end of the house, to the left, a stair-hall was inserted into the inner room, and this room may have been extended to the right. A stone staircase is located on the gable end, leading to the first floor on the right-hand side.
The exterior has two storeys and a window arrangement of 3:1:1 on the first floor. The windows are primarily 2-light casements with glazing bars, with the exception of a 16-pane sash window in the left-hand bay and a 20th-century window on the ground floor. There's also a 3-light leaded casement in the bay on the extreme right. There are three door openings; a 6-panelled door to the left, and two plank doors, each with a gabled porch. The interior features joinery from the early 19th century, including a staircase and window shutters. A cross-beam in the central room has an elaborate moulding, likely dating back to the 17th century. The kitchen at the lower end contains an oven that projects into the cider house, and a cider press is located within the ciderhouse itself.
Garden boundary railings, extending at right angles to the right of the frontage, are secured with spear-shaped caps on a high rendered plinth. Two gateways match the style of the railings.
