Description

The Stag Inn is an inn that dates back to the 17th century, with the possibility of earlier origins. It is constructed of rendered stone rubble and cob, topped with a half-hipped thatch roof. The building features a hipped roof over a two-storey porch, along with an axial rendered stack and a brick stack at the right end. The plan consists of a three-room-and-cross-passage layout, with the lower end to the right. The axial hall stack backs onto the passage, and there is an impressively deep projecting two-storey front porch that includes a hall bay to the left of the entrance passage.

The exterior of the inn is two storeys high and has a four-window range that includes the two-storey porch. The 19th-century windows are intact, featuring two-light casements with two panes per light on each floor at the left end. To the left of the two-storey porch, there is a three-light casement with four panes per light, and above it, a two-light casement with four panes per light sits above a 12-paned horizontal sliding sash to the left of the entrance passage. The entrance passage itself has a cobbled floor and a plank inner door. To the right, there are three-light casements with six panes per light on each floor.

The interior has not been inspected but is known to be relatively unspoilt and merits a thorough inspection, particularly of the roof structure.
