Description
This is a large, circa 1830 terraced house on Marine Parade in Instow, and it now incorporates three dwellings: No. 5, which is a home for elderly blind people; No. 6, which contains three flats; and No. 7, which also contains three flats. The house is built of rendered stone rubble, with a hipped slate roof, and sections of asbestos slate on the right side. There are two axial stacks, and a stack at the right end of the building. The design follows a symmetrical double-depth plan with a central entrance hall and side entrances to each end. It is two storeys high with a basement. The facade is arranged with 2:3:2 bays, featuring flat pilasters that frame each of the two end bays and the central three bays. The central three bays are topped with a pediment. There are seven windows across the upper floor, with 16-pane hornless sashes, except for the central windows which have 12 panes. The two bays at each end have canted bay windows extending to both the ground and basement floors, with tent-shaped roofs; the two left bays have original slates covering these roofs while the two right bays have 12-paned sashes on each facet. The right-hand bays have tripartite sashes with 8-paned sliding sidelight sashes. The central three bays feature 16-paned sashes flanking a projecting square porch with pilasters displaying a Greek key motif and a glazed front with 12 panes, separated by margin bars. A doorway to the left side has a four-panelled door with glazed upper panels, an overlight, and a flight of steps with wrought iron railings. The interior has not been inspected.
