Description
This is a group of four gravestones located approximately 4 to 7 metres south of the south porch of the Church of St. Peter ad Vincula in Combe Martin. Dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, the gravestones are made of slate and feature a nowy-arched design. One headstone commemorates John Wade, a mariner who died in 1814, and includes an angel's bust at the top. Its corresponding footstone has an urn at the head and bears the verse "Farewell my dear and loving wife." Another headstone is dedicated to Eleanor Symons, with her footstone also featuring an urn at the head and the inscription "Free from all care and pain..."
