Description
Cannington Cottage is a house dating from the early 19th century. It likely has a stone core and features roughcast and colourwashed walls, topped with a Welsh slate gabled roof and an end roughcast stack. The building has an L-shaped plan with a wing on the left side at the rear and a central stair hall flanked by rooms.
Architecturally, it is designed in the Regency style and stands two storeys tall with a symmetrical facade that originally featured three windows, each with 16-pane sashes and exposed sash boxes. The central door opening is adorned with a wooden doorcase, and it contains an original six-panelled door with a transom light above. At the rear, there are French windows with coloured glass.
Inside, the cottage retains early 19th-century joinery, including a staircase with a turned newel and stick balusters, window shutters, doors, and architraves. There is a large kitchen fireplace in the rear wing, while the fireplaces in two principal ground floor rooms were replaced around 1940. The property also features a railed forecourt with a gate that matches the style of the house.
