Description
This former forge, now used as a garage, dates from the 18th century and is located on the roadside immediately north of the cottage that is north of Quince Cottage. The building has cob and rubble walls that are rendered and colourwashed, topped with a hipped reed-thatched roof. It has a square plan with a direct entry on the right side leading into a large working area, and there is an additional room at the rear in a gabled addition that contains the former forge hearth.
On the exterior, there is a 4-pane casement window with lapped panes facing the roadside, and a door opening on the right side features paired plank doors with iron strap hinges. The interior is mostly plain, showcasing a pegged collar-beam roof of very light construction. The rear room includes a fireplace with brick dressings, likely associated with the former forge hearth. This building has group value with Quince Cottage and the attached cottage.
