Description

The Palmer Tomb chest, dating from 1737, is located approximately 7 metres south of the south chancel wall of the Church of St Peter in Fremington. This tomb chest is made of slate and sits on a brick base with a moulded brick plinth. It commemorates Jacob Palmer, Gent. (died 1737), and other family members, including William Palmer, who was the Rector of Ashford and Vicar of Yarnscombe (died 1770). The inscription reads: "Palmers and Strangers our Fathers were/Such as the Aged Father buried Here."
