Description
Hannaford House is a house built around 1760, featuring painted stucco and a hipped slate roof with a diamond pattern at the center. It has brick stacks at the gable ends and a modillion cornice. The house has a double depth plan with a large outshut at the rear. The front range is symmetrical with three windows and has a principal room on each side of the entrance hall. It is two storeys high and has Ionic pilasters at each end. The windows are 16 paned sashes flanking central Venetian windows, which have a human head keystone, Y-bars, and dentilled entablatures on the pilastered sidelights. The ground floor features two large bows with modillion cornices and tripartite curving sashes, with 8 over 12 panes in the center and 4 over 6 paned sidelights. The central entrance has a pedimented door surround with fluted pilasters, a panelled architrave, and a segmental arched fanlight above a six-panel door, two of which are glazed. The west side retains all original fenestration, including 12 paned sashes and one 3-light window with 10 panes per light. The rear outshut has an old plank door with cover strips. Inside, the principal room to the right features a fine rococo plaster ceiling with festoons and a rectangular moulded surround around a foliated centerpiece. It also has plain moulded panelling and a fine Adam-style chimneypiece with festoons and swags above a marble surround. The principal room to the left has a richly carved Jacobethan style fireplace and doorcase across the angle of the room. The stair hall features a modillion cornice and a foliated centerpiece, with a dog-leg staircase that has turned balusters and a wreathed and moulded handrail that ramps up to turned newels.
