Description

Higher Hannaford is a farmhouse, likely dating from the 17th century, substantially remodelled and enlarged in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of rendered stone and cob, with a scantle slate roof and hipped ends. The farmhouse originally had a three-room cross-passage plan, extended at both ends in the 19th century. It has two tall brick stacks on the rear elevation, one enclosed within a two-storey outshut with an additional brick shaft to a rubble stack with offsets. The front elevation has a six-window range of hornless 12-pane sash windows, with the second window from the right having two panes per light. Some ground floor windows and openings were altered in the 20th century. The main entrance is a six-panelled door leading to the cross-passage. A round-arched window is set into a rear stair turret. The interior was remodelled in the 19th century and has remained largely unaltered since, retaining roughly hewn roof timbers.
