Description

Sandlea and The Anchorage Hotel are a pair of guest houses dating from around 1870, with alterations made in the 20th century. They are constructed of rendered stone rubble with slate roofs and feature serrated bargeboards. The architectural style is Tudor Gothic. The buildings are composed of a central twin-gabled three-storey section flanked by two-storey entrance wings that mirror each other. The right-hand wing has been remodelled in the 20th century. Each gable has an oculus above two casement windows, each with two panes over six panes and continuous hoodmoulds. A first-floor balcony with an ogee-shaped roof and timber posts has a canted bay window with a crenellated cornice and a three-light window containing two panes over eight panes per light, with single sidelights. Ground-floor windows are casements with two panes over four panes. Each wing has a four-centred arched doorway with an original six-panelled door. The interiors were not inspected.
