Description

CHITTLEHAMHOLT SS 62 SW 3/45 - Range of outbuildings circa 5 metres north of Chittlehamholt Manor GV II

Range of outbuildings comprising stickroom, engine-house, store-sheds and shippon. Unrendered stone rubble. Slate roofs with gable ends and unusual ridge tiles, each tile decorated with twin horseshoe pattern. Brick stack with oversailing brick courses to the capping to left end of right-hand building. The range comprises 3 adjoining buildings in line, sited on a slope with decreasing roof levels towards lower right-hand end. Lofted shippon at left upper end, facing into rear yard, the 2 single storey buildings to right each divided into 2 rooms, the upper range used as store-sheds and possibly originally a cider-house, the lower range with formerly heated room and later engine-house to left and stickroom to right. Shippon lofted, otherwise single storey. Shippon has loft door to gable ends and 4 doorways with cambered stone arches on farm courtyard side, and 2 ventilation slits to rear. Middle range has 2 plank doors, range at right end has 2 plank doors and 3-light window.
