Description

These three houses, possibly originally one larger dwelling, were built around 1810. They are constructed of roughcast render with a slate roof, hipped at numbers 50 and 53; the chimneys have brick shafts and old pots. The houses are arranged in a U-shape, with a main block flanked by projecting front wings on the left and right. It is possible these wings were always separate units, or were originally part of a larger house.

The houses are two storeys high, with a symmetrical arrangement of one window in each wing and three windows in the central section. An eaves board runs along the top of the building. Number 51 has a prominent central doorway with a rounded top, incorporating fielded paneling and a fielded panel door with a fanlight featuring an applied patterned design. The windows are mostly 16-pane sash windows with horns. The wings each have a single 16-pane sash window on the first floor, and a tall, rounded recess on the ground floor containing 20th-century front doors with glazed side panels.

Inside number 51, there is a half-glazed 19th-century rear door, original woodwork, and a staircase with stick balusters running parallel to the entrance passage.

The houses stand elevated above the street, supported by a terrace wall built of stone. This wall includes a cellar door at street level, giving access to a cellar beneath the terrace. Steps lead up from the street to the area in front of number 51. Stone rubble garden walls are topped with bullnose brick coping.
