Description

This property, comprising numbers 81, 81A, and 82 Pilton Street, is a house originally dating from the 17th century or earlier, although it has undergone substantial remodelling over time. The exterior is roughcast, with a pantile roof featuring gabled ends and a brick shaft on a left-hand stack. The original plan may have been a three-room layout with a through-passage, with access to the passage from number 81A. It presents as an asymmetrical four-window facade. A wide recessed doorway, featuring an oak frame of possible 16th or 17th-century origin and a plank door, provides access to the passage. A 20th-century doorway has been inserted to the left, and another to the right, the latter with a plain overlight. Two first-floor windows to the left, and the ground-floor window to the left, are 19th-century hornless sash windows with 12 panes. The remaining windows are 20th-century timber casements, varying in size. An interior inspection revealed "post and plank panel screens" mentioned in a previous list description were not visible from within the passage. The earlier description also noted a "massive moulded beam" in the ground-floor room to the north.
