Description
West Kimmings Farmhouse and the adjoining farmbuilding, located at the southeast, is a tenanted farmhouse likely built in the late 18th century or early 19th century. The structure is made of cob and stone rubble, topped with a corrugated asbestos roof that is gabled at both ends; it was thatched until at least 1960. The farmhouse features a left end stack with a brick shaft and an axial stack with a stone shaft. The adjoining farmbuilding has a monopitch roof made of corrugated iron.
The farmhouse is positioned on steeply sloping ground that descends to the north and faces approximately south. It has a single depth, two-room layout with a central entrance. The kitchen is located to the left (east) and the parlour to the right (west). At the west end of the property, there is a bank barn that provides access to the loft from the south side and a shippon below, accessible from the north side.
The exterior of the two-storey house features an asymmetrical front with three windows that have regular spacing. It has a 20th-century timber front door and 19th or 20th-century three-light timber casements with glazing bars on either side, along with a similar two-light casement above the front door. The farmbuilding to the right includes a large double doorway with cheeks. The impressive rear (north) elevation of the farmbuilding showcases four round-headed openings for the shippon on the ground floor, supported by rectangular section piers. The north elevation of the house has one first-floor two-light casement and three ground-floor casements.
Inside the farmhouse, there are two large open fireplaces, with the left-hand fireplace featuring a bread oven. In the farmbuilding, the floorboards near the north wall have been removed to facilitate dropping fodder directly into the mangers below.
