Description

Whiddon Park House is a house that has been divided into two occupations. It was originally built in the 17th century and remodeled in the late 18th century, with extensions added in the 20th century. The building is constructed of stone and cob, with a facade refaced in Flemish bond brickwork and a moulded brick plinth. The upper storey on the left gable end is finished with rendered slate-hanging. The slate roof features gable ends and has two stacks located off centre at the rear; the left stack has a tall tapered clay pot, while the right stack is rendered. There is also a brick stack at the right gable end.

The house likely originally had a through-passage plan, but short right-angled extensions have been added at each end to the rear, creating a three-sided courtyard with shallow projecting sides. The symmetrical facade is two storeys high and has a five-window range of horned tripartite sashes with marginal glazing bars and two-paned sidelight sashes. The left side porch has a hipped slate roof, while the right side porch features a flat roof and an inner plank door. Three ground floor tripartite sashes are topped with cambered brick arches.

Inside, some early joinery remains, including two-panelled doors. Two trusses were replaced in the 20th century, but five trusses still have lap-jointed collars.
