Description

This is a coffin slab, likely from the 12th or 13th century, located abutting the priests' door on the south side of the chancel of the Church of St Andrew in Colebrooke. It is made of granite and tapers from head to foot, slightly raised above the pitch cobble approach path to the priests' door. The top of the slab is slightly cambered and features very worn remains of a relief cross patee. A circular depression in the top arm of the cross suggests that it may have originally represented a sword.
